Drugs and Alcohol
Alcohol or substance misuse can lead to a range of social, psychological and medical problems, including dependence and can be associated with impaired work performance and attendance. This guidance applies to all school employees and the aim is to provide support and guidance to protectschool employees and pupils.
Whilst not diminishing the potential gravity of alcohol and substance misuse, it should be recognised that it is a health and safety issue requiring support and treatment.
This guidance aims to assist managers in the identification and management of employees whom they suspect have drug or alcohol problems that may be impacting on work; to avoid unnecessary absence; to ensure effective work performance and to provide a working environment which ensures that, as far as practicable, the health and safety of all employees and pupils within school.
